Welcome to Class 1
Hello and welcome to Year 1!
My name is Miss Forster and I am the Year 1 teacher. We are supported by the wonderful Mrs Winterbone and Ms Griffiths.
Year 1 is an exciting year in which children build upon their skills and knowledge gained from their time in EYFS. Children in Year 1 will be working hard to develop their reading, writing and maths skills and will prepare for the end-of-year Phonics Screening Check by taking part in daily phonics sessions. The children will also learn about a wide range of foundation subjects through engaging lessons and topics whilst developing their independence with regards to their work and their personal skills which will support their future development.
Please get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.

Our Curriculum
Autumn Term:
Year 1 have been practicing a range of movements as part of their gymnastics topic in PE. They have been putting these rolls, balances, jumps and different methods of travelling in a simple routine, both on the floor and on apparatus.
In Science, Year 1 have been learning about the topic ‘Animals Including Humans’. As part of this, they’ve developed their knowledge and understand of the human body and began to categorise animals based on their characteristics and diets. Year 1 got to observe, hold, touch, and discuss a range of animals within one of their lessons.
Year 1 have been learning about their history – how their life has changed so far – and what life was like before them. Miss Forster’s grandparents came into school to talk about what their childhood (70 years ago) was like. Year 1 asked them questions about their childhood and looked at photographs from when they were young.
